Just a random one I thought I should share:

"Instead of trying to build newer and bigger weapons of destruction, we should be thinking about getting more use out of the ones we already have."

By sheer coincidence, I happen to run across these blogs about military spending. The first is by Stephen Walt, whom I'm sure Thayer made you familiar with. The second is by a series of FP/IR academics in DC. (forgive me if you are already familiar with them)
